Darrell J. Manogue

Darrell J. Manogue, 81, of Janesville passed away on Friday, December 13, 2013 at Rock Haven Nursing Home. He was born in Milton on September 17, 1932, the first son of Darrell L. and Mildred L. (Cogswell) Manogue. He graduated from Janesville High School in 1951. Darrell was very interested in racing pigeons from an early age and started this hobby behind the garage of the family home at 900 Prospect avenue, (now East Centerway) in Janesville. Darrell served in the U. S. Army from February 27, 1951 to February 6, 1954 and was stationed in Germany. He married Arlene Brown in January of 1956. They had one daughter, Susan A. Darrell spent many years in the construction business, mainly in Nevada where he also raced pigeons. He was also an addiction specialist while working with the Salvation Army in Nevada, he was also active in AA. Darrell returned to Wisconsin when his health failed and as he recovered and healed from surgery due to diabetes. Darrell enjoyed playing cards and had a “standing date” with his brother, David and his sisters, Phyllis Arnold and Nanci Christenson to play cribbage every Monday. He had a great love for the game of golf.
Darrell is survived by his loving daughter, Susan (Don) Cullen, two grandsons, Brian (Stephanie) and Scott (Liz) Cullen, one great-granddaughter, Kenley, his brother, David (Gail), his sisters, Phyllis (Bob) Arnold and Nanci Christenson, all of Janesville, as well as many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, former wife, Arlene, one brother, Jerry and brother-in-law, David Christenson.
Private services will be held officiated by Fr. William Nolan. Military rites will be conducted by Kienow-Hilt V.F.W. Post # 1621.  Burial will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, December 16, 2013 at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Project 16:49.
